Mile To Ride Before Sleep

About Me

Hi! My name is Marcus Thompson. I joined the cycling club when I entered grad school at Purdue in 2010. I did my first time trial in the fall and started road racing in the spring, beginning my four year collegiate racing career. I had a blast and made great friends.

The same spring a woman at my church asked if I would ride in Cover Indiana, a 380 mile seven day tour in support of Habitat for Humanity (HFH). I said, "Sure. Why not?" My longest ride until that point was 30 miles. I met some amazing people and learned about the affordable housing crisis. I was hooked on the cause and the longer rides.

The next spring (2012) I became an officer in the HFH chapter at Purdue and helped promote Cover Indiana. I kept my position in the fall and planned with my co-chair the 120 mile ride from Purdue to Indiana University, Bucket 100. We raised a record amount for Habitat.
During the summer of 2012 I participated in a cross country trip with Bike & Build. 26 people and myself started in Jacksonville, Florida, and rode to Monterey, California. Along the way we volunteered with organizations like HFH. Like all my other experiences in cycling, I made incredible friends and couldn't get enough. So I did it again in 2013. 28 of us biked from Charleston, South Carolina, to Santa Cruz, California.

After Bike & Build I was looking for another opportunity post-graduation, pre-job. I saw the Trans Am Bike Race pop up in my news feed on Facebook, and I immediately considered it. Months later, I have my gear, training, and a bit of planning beneath me. I've never done this type of racing before, but I am excited to see what will unfold. Join me and follow along:
