Trans Am Bike Race
I've decided to raise money for Habitat for Humanity through my race. I thought about having it for the general fund, but then I had another idea. Many students at Purdue University get involved with cycling and Habitat for Humanity through the local rides, Bucket 100 and Cover Indiana. Some of them go on to participate in Bike & Build after hearing about it from other riders like I did (In fact, Purdue is the most represented university on Bike & Build trips this summer). The student chapter has about a dozen bikes for rent for those without. Most of them are 30 years old, aren't the most functional or comfortable. I'd like to raise money for the purchase of new bikes for the student chapter.
Cover Indiana and Bucket 100 each has a minimum fundraising requirement for their participants. $350 and $100, respectively. If these new rental bikes were used for both events (nearly certain), they would raise at least $450 for the cause, annually. This is why I would like to donate to Habitat in this way - it's highly sustainable and it helps new riders get involved with Habitat and cycling. If you're not familiar with Habitat, homeowners repay Habitat through affordable monthly payments. Habitat doesn't give away homes. Those payments get used to build the next house. So - I am fundraising for bikes (sustainable), which is for Habitat (also sustainable). Double sustainability!

If you're feeling doubly generous, I personally need financial help with this race. I burn about 6,500 calories during a 150 mile ride, and my goal is 28 days at that pace.
